WHO WE ARE
The Bright Morning Star Prison and Homeless Outreach (BMS) is a volunteering organization and an award-winning charity established in 2015 by Prophetess Monsurat Ibilola Osarobo. To support, elevate, empower, and rebuild the lives of the most vulnerable people in London.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Our aims and objectives are the prevention and relief of poverty and homelessness across London, by providing immediate and long-term, physical, and mental support for those who are homeless, threatened by homelessness, or without recourse to public funds. Community building projects that encourage action and engagement help all members of the community to feel supported regardless of circumstances.
The provision of support to recently released and soon-to-be-released ex-convicts from South London prisons to prevent homelessness and empower their reintegration into the community by providing training and signposting services.
To act as a resource for people from the age of 17 living in London by providing information and advice and organizing educational programs that help to advance lives, develop skills, and enable participation in society as independent, mature, and responsible individuals.
We work across seven London boroughs, seven days a week, providing support and services to the homeless, rough sleepers, job seekers, inmates, (including ex-offenders returning from the prison establishment), individuals with no recourse to public funds, older people, families, and those on a low income. The range of our work is varied and is spread across dedicated coffee mornings, a weekly food bank at Pedlars Acre Community Hall, dedicated outreach along with providing specialist advice on housing, debt, food pick up and redistribution to the community, and benefits advice. We also provide counseling, a mediation service together with advocacy, and visits to prisons.
In recognition of our services, we were recently acknowledged as Homeless Charity of the Year 2022 courtesy of the London and Southeast England Prestige Award. Naturally, we are very excited to be singled out, and milestones like this are an important acknowledgment for our staff and all our dedicated volunteers. But there is still much, much more to be done!
